Q. What is hot wax?
A. Hot wax is applied thickly and left to cool. The heat opens the hair follicle which allows far easier hair removal when it is peeled off. It also leaves a far superior finish because it removes more of those stubborn hairs.
Q. Which areas of the body do you use hot wax on?
A. At Callidora Hot wax is only used for bikini waxing. Strip wax will be used on all other areas of the body, which is a thin layer of wax applied to the skin and then removed using a paper strip.
Q. How long must my hair be to be able to get waxed?
A. At most 1cm but it can be trimmed a little, if required, when you come for your appointment.
Q. Will I have to go on all fours to get the bum area waxed?
A. Yes, it makes for a far easier and gentler removal of the hair from around the bum area.
Q. Do I need to take off my underwear to be waxed?
A. For Brazilian and Hollywood waxing, it would be preferable that your underwear was removed. For waxing around the pant line you may keep your own underwear on or be supplied with disposable pants.
Q. Can I still be waxed if I have my period?
A. Yes, but please ensure you use a tampon and the wipes provided at Callidora. Please note, you may also find your waxing experience a bit more painful when you are premenstrual or menstruating.
Q. How do I prepare for my wax treatment?
A. A little preparation will make your treatment a more comfortable experience, so you should gently exfoliate the area the day before as this will prepare your skin and remove dead skin cells. Please also avoid using a sunbed/solarium for 48 hours prior to your treatment because it will sensitise your skin.
Q. How long will the finished result last?
A. It varies from person to person because everyone has their own individual hair growth rate. However, as we all have the same three stages to our hair growth, you can ensure you get the best possible results by synchronising this as follows:
After your first treatment you may find the hair growth is quick to come in. Rest easy as this is the next stage growing in and not the hair which has just been removed. To synchronise this growth, so the initial results of your waxing treatment last longer, it is recommended that your first three waxes are every four weeks. Then, dependant on your own hair growth rate, it would become every four to six weeks thereafter. Shaving or tweezing is NOT recommended in between waxes as it will disrupt this cycle.
Q. What should I do after I've been waxed?
A. You should avoid:-
For 48 hours after treatment: sun exposure, deodorant (dependant on area waxed), highly perfumed lotions and potions, hot showers and sunbeds.
For 24 hours after treatment: swimming pools, saunas, steam rooms, spas and strenuous exercise i.e. sweating.
Your pores are open so it's best to avoid anything that may irritate the area or encourage bacteria to grow.
Please don't hesitate to ask if there are any questions not answered above.
